Stop and Smell the Roses

Do you know this saying? Of course you do, everyone's heard it!  By now, it's just a frequent saying that gets thrown around every now and again.  But... have you ever thought about what it means?  Have you ever applied it to your life?  Stop right now, wherever you are, whatever you're doing (besides reading this post).  "Stop and smell the roses".  Maybe it has different meanings to everyone.. but here's my take on it:

Stop and smell the roses.  People casually walk outside to get to point A to point B.  We're all in such a hurry to get to point B that we rush the walk.  We don't look at anything around us on this walk because we're focused on the end point.  During this walk, what if you stopped for a moment and

recognized these beautiful flowers surrounding you as you walk? And what if you stop and even smell these flowers.. perhaps, roses?

You relax for one second instead of rushing to the next place and enjoy the beautiful view and delicious smell of these roses that you never even noticed before.  All that anxiety and overwhelming feeling fades... and you're happy.  You're eyes(and nose) are now open to this world that surrounds your every day.  And your life is instantly better because you stopped and smelled the roses.  Makes sense, right?  What if instead we're talking about rushing through life and not appreciating every step taken, but just focusing on the goal at the end.  Stopping and smelling those damn roses around the way will 100% improve your life.

A great example of this is living a "fit lifestyle".  If we are on this heath and fitness journey, then we all have end goals in mind (or you should).  Goals are a great thing in fitness because you then have something you're working towards!  Whether it's a weight loss goal (want to decrease body fat %), a strength goal (want to squat 225lbs- mine!), or an aestethic goal (want to look jacked 💪🏽)... we all have an end goal we're thinking about.  While we're working towards these end goals, we should be enjoying the process it takes to get there.  If we were only happy and satisfied when we reach our goal, that would be a long and miserable process.  Instead, stop and realize how enjoyable each step that gets you closer to your goal is.  Every day that you're working you're a little closer.  Find joy in these days.

So, don't forget, next time you're rushing through life trying to get from point A to point B, stop and smell those beautiful roses🌹 .

Xoxo,

Cam
